BestCities is the world’s first and
only international convention bureau
alliance with eight partners on five
continents. Its mission is to be
recognized internationally for being
innovative and setting and
delivering the world’s best
convention bureau practices for the
meetings industry. San Juan is one
of the newest cities to be
designated as a BestCities member.
It is also the only Spanish-speaking
city and the only one in the
Caribbean to receive such a
distinction.
Together with some of the world's
top convention cities, including
Cape Town, Copenhagen, Dubai,
Edinburgh, Melbourne, Vancouver and
Singapore, the alliance works
together to develop global best
practices in the convention arena
through innovation, knowledge
exchange, professional development
as well as client servicing in the
meetings industry.
Basically, clients always know
what to expect – the destinations
represented by the partners have the
facilities, attractions, and
infrastructure to ensure a
successful convention.
To be eligible for membership
into the BestCities alliance, the
Puerto Rico Convention Bureau was
evaluated on six core areas:
- Destination Expertise
– the ability to provide a
comprehensive range of local
products and services to meeting
and convention organizers and
assist with event enquiries.
- Bid Assistance – the
ability to provide meeting and
convention organizers with a
high level of knowledge and
expertise in planning and
putting together a bid package,
as well as providing a wide
range of services to facilitate
the bidding process.
- Convention Planning –
the ability to provide
assistance to convention
organizers during the initial
planning stages of a convention
and giving them access to a
network of member products and
services to facilitate the
event.
- Building Attendance –
the commitment to making each
convention successful and
maximizing delegate attendances
through an effective
attendance-build campaign.
- Onsite Event Servicing
– the ability to provide a
number of value-added services
to compliment the conventions
(e.g. providing a complimentary
collateral materials; providing
support through sponsorship,
coordinating meet and greet
services).
- Post Event Support –
the ability to do a post-event
debrief by conducting verbal
interviews with organizers or a
questionnaire survey.
By choosing a meetings
destination like San Juan, visitors
are guaranteed a level of expertise
unprecedented anywhere else in the
Caribbean.
