La Arcada
Built in 1837, La Princesa, the former San Juan penitentiary now serves as the main office for the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, and encompasses La Arcada and el Paseo La Princesa (La Princesa Promenade). La Arcada and the promenade are an ideal site for a banquet function featuring local music and dance. Surrounded by majestic trees, sculptures and kiosks, El Paseo La Princesa is a breathtaking site, which faces the San Juan Bay and overlooks a fountain with a bronze sculpture that showcases Puerto Rico's cultural roots.
Museo de San Juan
Built in the 1860’s as Old San Juan’s market place, the Museum now hosts a number of cultural and artistic events, including the seasonal Gallery Nights. Recently renovated, the museum welcomes fine-arts lovers from around the Island. The museum also boasts a fully-equipped amphitheater, which is ideal for performances and evening gatherings.
San Juan City Hall
Completed in 1789, the San Juan City Hall located in front of Plaza de Armas ,was built to resemble Madrid's City Hall in Spain. While preserving its function as city hall, it also houses the Sala Capitular, a gallery for periodic exhibitions, which can serve as a meeting room, and La Terraza, an open terrace with a view of the San Juan Bay.
Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico
The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico incorporates a modern five story structure designed by architects Otto Reyes and Luis Gutierrez, with a neo-classic building that was part of the San Juan Municipal Hospital. This brilliant conservation surpasses 130,000 sq.
ft. (12,077 m2). The modern East Wing is characterized by a three-story high atrium, which leads to the theater, restaurant, museum shop and gardens.
Museo de Arte Contemporáneo
The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MAC) collects, preserves, documents and showcases works of art of contemporary Puerto Rican, Latin-American, and Caribbean artists, which encompasses over 700 pieces. Built in 1918 in Georgian style, it contains large exhibit halls, and an inner patio. The Museum offers temporary art exhibits and other activities geared to the integration of the arts into contemporary society, as well as educational programs which include service, investigation, and study centers that are open to the general public.
The Gallery Inn
This quaint inn boasts an abundant collection of antique furniture, tapestries, drawings, paintings, and sculptures. Home to Jan D’Esopo, sculptress and painter from Connecticut, this exclusive setting of 18th century contiguous restored buildings is used for private candlelit banquets and meetings. Guests have access to the entire property including the romantic music room with a grand piano and a rooftop terrace with a magnificent view of San Juan.
